There is a story about Demetrius and the pomegranate that my daughters teacher asked her to find, but I%26#039;m having no luck online. Do you know what it is?
Demetrius and the pomegranate?
yes the daughter of the goddess in charge of the weather and flowers was tricked into going into the underworld with hades. while there hades gave her 12 pomegranete grains and she ate 6. by the time her mother got there it was to late. she and hades fought and they finally decided that the daughter would spend 6 of the twelve months in the underworld representing fall and winter, and the other six with her mother representing summer and spring. see the story goes that the daughter was the total happiness of the godess and thats part of the year it is beautiful and the other (when she is sad) the climate is cold and barren.
sorry dont know the exact names of the goddess and her daughter

Reply:is not demetrius is Persephone look for it on wikipedia.org not google
Reply:Yes I do. Once upon a time Demeter%26#039;s( Demetrius) daughter ,Presephone, was playing in a flowery Field when Hades saw her. He feel in love with her and kidnapped her taking her to the underworld so he could marry her.
When Demeter returned to the flowery field and found that her daughter was missing she was in despair. She searched all the world looking for her (in some versions of the myth she is accompanied by Hecate) When she learned that Zeus had conspired in her daughter%26#039;s abduction she was furious, and refused to let the earth fruit until Persephone was returned. Zeus agreed , but because the girl had tasted of the food of Hades(a handful of pomegranate seeds)she was forced to forever spend a part of the year with her husband in the underworld.
Its the myth of the seasons.
Reply:Demeter is the the Greek earth goddess, who brings forth the fruits of the earth, particularly the various grains. She taught mankind the art of sowing and ploughing so they could end their nomadic existence. As such, Demeter was also the goddess of planned society. She was very popular with the rural population.
In systematized theology, Demeter is a daughter of Cronus and Rhea and sister of Zeus by whom she became the mother of Persephone. When Persephone was abducted by Hades, lord of the underworld, Demeter wandered the earth in search of her lost child. During this time the earth brought forth no grain. Finally Zeus sent Hermes to the underworld, ordering Hades to restore Persephone to her mother.
However, before she left, Hades gave her a pomegranate (a common fertility symbol). When she ate from it, she was bound to spend a third of the year with her husband in the infernal regions. Only when her daughter is with her, Demeter lets things grow (summer). The dying and blossoming of nature was thus connected with Demeter.
